Kotoribako - severed body parts, womb discussion
Date: 2023-05-07 03:36 am (UTC)Sorawo, Toriko, Migiwa, and Kozakura are in what appears to be a lab room. A wooden box sits on the floor, and Sorawo watches as a red bird appears out of it and flies around - only to realize no one else can see it but her. The bird tries to attack Kozakura, but Sorawo pushes her out of the way in time - only for the bird to go after Toriko when she isn't looking, flying back to the box with "something red" held in its beak (but probably assumed some kind of internal flesh). The bird passes through Sorawo and she feels a thrusting pain in her abdomen. The box is a kotoribako, and as with the netlore it's associated with, it's a cursed item.
Sorawo gets Migiwa to take Kozakura out of the room because it targets women, and between her blue eye which can see abnormal objects and Toriko's translucent hand which can touch abnormal things, they begin working on the puzzle box to open it up and find the root cause of the birds even as said birds continue passing through them and claiming red strands from them, increasing the pain each time. Toriko's in worse shape, talking idly about how Sorawo protected Kozakura before Toriko, and even hid the pain so she wouldn't worry - although Sorawo contends it was just to get Kozakura out faster. Toriko is happy that Sorawo is helping others and not so focused on Toriko, so it's okay if Toriko leaves, which causes Sorawo to get upset. Eventually, they reach the very center of the box, but...
Toriko has stopped breathing. Sorawo can't resuscitate her, and the box... is empty.
Kokkuri-san - cw emeto
Date: 2023-05-07 07:14 am (UTC)Sorawo, Toriko, Kozakura, and Runa set up a table in front of a casket overflowing with flowers to play Kokkuri-san. The plan is to turn the ghost of Satsuki Uruma into a "cow's head" - that is, a scary story in name only, with no actual substance or story behind it. Runa uses her hypnotic Voice to call Satsuki to them, and Sorawo tries to have Toriko influence the path of the coin with her Otherside-touched hand to change Satsuki's answers to make them into reality.
Runa goes off script to scream angrily at Satsuki for killing her mother, getting a glimpse of Satsuki's form and fainting. Kozakura tells Satsuki she was always inhuman because she never treated anyone as a person. Toriko confesses that she once loved Satsuki, but knows now that she's no longer the Satsuki she knew, and states that she loves Sorawo now and that she's through with Satsuki.
However, when they try to make Satsuki answer that she is no longer Satsuki but an Ushi no Kubi, the answer changes instead to Ushi-Oni - allowing the flowers to form into a monstrous shape with an oni mask. At that moment, a doppelganger of Sorawo appears and seems ready to take Satsuki's hand to leave, but Toriko grabs her instead and drags her back, yelling at Satsuki for trying to take Sorawo away from her and saying she doesn't want her to touch Toriko or Sorawo ever again before dramatically kissing Sorawo.
Once the kiss is over, Sorawo proclaims that she's going to look after all of the girls that Satsuki messed with. With that, Sorawo and Toriko put the coin back in place and finish the rite, exorcising Satsuki for good this time.
Kankandara - insect-like description
Date: 2023-05-08 12:33 am (UTC)Sorawo, Toriko, and a bunch of US Marines find an offering box in the forest which summons the presence of the six-armed snake woman, Kankandara, whose body makes the sound of bells each time she's attacked. The sound causes pain in those around her. Sorawo captures her in her gaze with her blue eye and has Toriko bring a bigger gun while she keeps Kankandara contained, getting more and more indignant that Kankandara seems to think she can intimidate Sorawo into looking away. Eventually Toriko shows up with a patched together tank, the Gorgon, and slams it into Kankandara, killing her and ending the painful bell sounds for everyone. The US Marines get up in relief as Toriko runs to help Sorawo back to her feet.
Toriko's Perspective - Food, Emeto (unrelated)
Date: 2023-08-20 09:27 pm (UTC)Strangely it's a memory not from Sorawo's perspective, but someone with long blonde hair. There is no sound or smell accompanying any of these flashes of scenes.
Sorawo acting suspiciously as the POV person hands her a fat wad of cash. Sorawo grumbling but no less determined to finish off an excessive order of food at a restaurant. Sorawo with her arm around the POV person as she fires off a shotgun resting on a balcony railing. Sorawo on top of a military vehicle looking ahead, expression tense as it drives forth. Sorawo in a swimsuit, bashful and not quite willing to look the POV person in the eye. Sorawo sitting across the table at a yakitori place looking to the side sullenly. Sorawo, blanching with pain but still seriously looking at a wooden mosaic. Sorawo looking blankly at the POV person while waiting for the elevator. Sorawo sitting on the train, playing with her slightly longer hair. Sorawo bound to a chair looking up at the POV person in disbelief. Sorawo clinging to the POV person, face a mess of tears as she babbles something. Sorawo in a hot springs changing room, looking tense as she prepares to remove her clothes. Sorawo in a dark and abandoned hotel room, rinsing her mouth out in front of a sink with no running water, looking exhausted. Sorawo opening a box containing a folding knife with a fish engraved in the wooden handle, eyes widening in surprise.
There's something incredibly loving about the gaze on Sorawo at all these times - despite the scenarios, Sorawo looks adorable, strong, reliable, smart, and yet somehow someone who just can't be left alone.
UBL Victims Ward - Body Horror, Nails
Date: 2023-08-20 09:47 pm (UTC)Sorawo, Toriko, Kozakura, and Migiwa walk down a sterile white corridor lined with sliding doors at intervals. Each sliding door has a window facing into the corridor beside it, which allows them to see inside the rooms. It has a zoo or prison-like feel. A passing doctor tells them the patients have settled down and not to agitate them - don't look at their faces too much and avoid talking loudly about their symptoms. Even if they don't seem to be conscious, they may still be able to see and hear.
The first room has furnishings such as a bed, desk, and chair, but only seems to have a pile of papers inside... until Migiwa points out the "paper" is the patient, a humanoid form except with their skin, hair, face, and fingers turned into fine, dangling strips. Like a human being that had been put through a shredder, but lacked the colors of flesh and blood. Migiwa explains in a detached tone that their body has become light and they are always blown into the corner by the air conditioner. He doesn't know if they're conscious or not, but he prays for the latter.
When Sorawo asks how that happened, he explains that they came into contact with some sort of anomaly in the "UBL." There was nothing out of the ordinary when they first returned, but some days later, these symptoms suddenly developed.
They continue on. The next is a human figure standing straight under an ultraviolet light, unmoving feet buried up to their ankles in dirt. From the shoulders up they look like a great sunflower.
The next window has a patient laying in their bed. They're covered in translucent growths that sprouted from their entire body, twisting upwards and radiating out across the surface of the ceiling.
The next window has a room covered ceiling to floor in symbols and drawings that had been scrawled by hand... by first appearances. An emaciated man writes something in a frenzy, but on a closer look thin, white, bug-like things crawl out from between his nails, writhing around on the ground before becoming written characters on their own.
Migiwa explains calmly that the DS Lab was originally created to study the UBL, however there were soon so many victims they switched purposes to protect and treat the victims. All of these patients were people who entered the other world and came into contact with something that changed them, from VIPs to people connected to members of the Diet, their families, even members of the lab themselves. This is also how the DS lab acquires so much funding.
Kozakura seems gruff the whole time, confirming with Sorawo and Toriko that even seeing this much isn't going to stop them from continuing to explore. She turns to leave in an angry huff, and Toriko, Sorawo, and Migiwa move to follow her out.
Hasshaku-Sama Encounter
Date: 2023-08-24 07:43 am (UTC)Sorawo, Toriko, and a disheveled man armed with an assault rifle walk into what appears to be an abandoned school building.
