Sorawo, Toriko, Kozakura, and Migiwa walk down a sterile white corridor lined with sliding doors at intervals. Each sliding door has a window facing into the corridor beside it, which allows them to see inside the rooms. It has a zoo or prison-like feel. A passing doctor tells them the patients have settled down and not to agitate them - don't look at their faces too much and avoid talking loudly about their symptoms. Even if they don't seem to be conscious, they may still be able to see and hear.
The first room has furnishings such as a bed, desk, and chair, but only seems to have a pile of papers inside... until Migiwa points out the "paper" is the patient, a humanoid form except with their skin, hair, face, and fingers turned into fine, dangling strips. Like a human being that had been put through a shredder, but lacked the colors of flesh and blood. Migiwa explains in a detached tone that their body has become light and they are always blown into the corner by the air conditioner. He doesn't know if they're conscious or not, but he prays for the latter.
When Sorawo asks how that happened, he explains that they came into contact with some sort of anomaly in the "UBL." There was nothing out of the ordinary when they first returned, but some days later, these symptoms suddenly developed.
They continue on. The next is a human figure standing straight under an ultraviolet light, unmoving feet buried up to their ankles in dirt. From the shoulders up they look like a great sunflower.
The next window has a patient laying in their bed. They're covered in translucent growths that sprouted from their entire body, twisting upwards and radiating out across the surface of the ceiling.
The next window has a room covered ceiling to floor in symbols and drawings that had been scrawled by hand... by first appearances. An emaciated man writes something in a frenzy, but on a closer look thin, white, bug-like things crawl out from between his nails, writhing around on the ground before becoming written characters on their own.
Migiwa explains calmly that the DS Lab was originally created to study the UBL, however there were soon so many victims they switched purposes to protect and treat the victims. All of these patients were people who entered the other world and came into contact with something that changed them, from VIPs to people connected to members of the Diet, their families, even members of the lab themselves. This is also how the DS lab acquires so much funding.
Kozakura seems gruff the whole time, confirming with Sorawo and Toriko that even seeing this much isn't going to stop them from continuing to explore. She turns to leave in an angry huff, and Toriko, Sorawo, and Migiwa move to follow her out.
